Due to the demands of work and family, many of us enjoy eating out. However,
calories and fat can add up quickly in restaurants. Here are some tips to
consider when dining out:
-
Get a restaurant guide, and read it before you go out so
that you can plan ahead for what you’re going to order.
-
Share your portions with a friend. Don’t eat the whole
plate full that is served.
-
Ask for a carry-out container, and take half the meal
home to eat the next day.
-
Ask for salad dressing on the side. If it is high in
fat, use it sparingly.
-
Check to see if the restaurant offers “light” entrées.
Many establishments indicate these menu items with a heart symbol.
-
Avoid all-you-can-eat bars. The temptation to overeat is
great. Order items a la carte.
-
Ask to modify your meal. See if your entrée can be
steamed, broiled or baked instead of fried.
